COVID-19 VACCINATION WILL BE OPENED UP FOR ALL ABOVE 18 FROM 1ST MAY
The Centre has decided to open up COVID-19 vaccination for all above 18 years of age from 1st May onwards. This decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, 19th April. The Government has been working hard for over a year, along with the vaccine manufacturers so that vaccination gets available for all in the country as soon as possible. India’s COVID-19 vaccination drive is progressing at a rapid pace and to date, 12.4 crore vaccine doses have been administered. This is a record-breaking pace and is the fastest in the world. On 16th January, the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination program was launched for the frontline workers and healthcare workers. Later on, 1st April, the vaccination was expanded for all those above 45 years of age. PM Modi also interacted with the leading doctors of the country for reviewing the public health response to COVID-19, after receiving the vaccination. He also thanked all the healthcare professionals who are working day and night to fight against COVID-19. Due to the doctor’s hard work and support from the citizens, we were able to control the first coronavirus wave during the same time, the last year. Now, when the country is facing the second wave of COVID-19, the same support is needed from all the citizens as well as the doctors. Opening up the vaccination for all people above 18 years of age had been a constant demand from several states. Finally, now the decision has been made. This decision has sparked relief and happiness once again. So, we can hope that soon we might get out of this pandemic and return back to our normal lives.
