CASES DOUBLE IN INDIA IN 10 DAYS CROSSING THE 2 MILLION MARK

In the past 14 days, India crossed several somber milestones with ever-rising causalities and a 3.5 fold rise in the active cases, India crosses the 2 million mark with a spiraling daily number of cases. With a whopping number of 2,59,167 new covid cases reported on Monday, India passed the 2 million benchmarks and with that, it is the country with the highest number of reported cases second to the U.S. The steep growth in active cases is in direct relation to the high number of new cases being reported each day since the start of April. The cases surged from 5.8 lakh as reported on March 31 to 20.3 lakh on April 19, 2021; thus putting the frontline and health care workers under a lot of stress. According to the latest reported stats, most of the hospitals and health departments have been under immense pressure to meet the increasing demand with limited resources. The number of deaths reported diurnally has also been on a rise proportional to the daily new cases being reported in India. India recorded 1,693 deaths from the covid on Monday, which is the highest reported number till now taking the total death toll of India to 1,81,000 due to the coronavirus. This amount of increasing daily deaths has also put a scarcity of crematories available. According to TOI, it is found that cases dip every Monday due to slightly less amount of testing owing to shortage of staff but since 2,59,167 cases were recorded this Monday which was an all-time high it’s probable that the rise in cases might not cease in an upcoming couple of days. Although there was a decline in fresh cases than the previous day’s tally, 7 states recorded the highest number of reported cases in a day so far, Rajasthan(11,967), Bengal(8,426), Madhya Pradesh(12,897), Odisha(4,445), Jharkhand(4,290), Himachal(1,695). Whereas Delhi recorded its highest ever single-day death toll of 240 from the virus. Maharashtra on the other hand continued as the state with the highest number of deaths (351) recorded in a single day in the country. Among these, the other states which reported a high number of deaths were Karnataka(81), Punjab(84), Madhya Pradesh(79), Gujarat(117), Uttar Pradesh(167 deaths), and Chhattisgarh where 175 deaths were reported. All in all, India ranks 2nd in the highest number of active cases which more than that of Brazil and less than that of the US who was 6.8 million active cases. With this ever-growing number of cases, it’s also our duty as citizens to follow the safety guidelines issued by the government, wear a mask, follow social distancing, and not step out unless and until it’s necessary.
